Standing at about six feet two inches, Shadow is a decently tall man. He wears his hair rather short, more of a practical decision rather than one of fashion. His eyes are almost the exact shade of brown as his hair, both of which lean toward the darker end of the spectrum. His body has been covered in scars, the product of a lifetime spent fighting the worst Chorazin can throw at him. In addition, he has several tattoos on his body, including the names of his mother and father on his neck, and the motto "Truth, Honor, Vision" written on his left arm in stylized lettering. On his back, he possesses a large tattoo of several Iron Crosses, each with the name of a fallen comrade killed in the line of duty. The crosses have become more numerous in the past two years, since the start of the war against the Tainted.

Personality:
Shadow is a career security officer, and takes his job choice seriously. When he is given an assignment, he completes it to the letter, and leaves no room for error. He is efficient, accomplishing every objective given to him without complaint. He is a complete professional, and it shows. However, on a personal level, he can be quite cheerful and entertaining to be around, so long as you give him time to open up. To strangers, he’s often as brutal and direct as one might assume from an officer who's spent his whole life fighting a war that is very close to ending in complete loss. To those who manage to take the time to know him however, he’s a rather great guy to hang around, as he’s quite funny, and able to lend a helping hand and a few words of wisdom your way. It’s an unfortunate fact however that most don’t get this close to him, and aside from a small number of fellow officers such as his partner, Amy, most who have are either dead or have walked completely out of his life at this point.
While not actively involved on an assignment, or chasing down targets at the behest of his new mentor, Shadow can usually be found engaging in any number of recreational activities. Like many within the city, he is a massive fan of the game of football, or soccer, and is exceptionally skilled at the game. Indeed, if Shadow ever decided to leave his life as a security officer behind, he could no doubt find himself a place on a professional team. In recent times, he's taken up smoking and drinking heavily, in order to deal with the constant pressure his work puts on him, annoying habits that he wishes dearly he could reverse.
In the past two years, Shadow has become something of a shell of the man he once was. His entire career's work was invalidated in one fell swoop when the target of his hatred, Keyzer Soze, was sanctioned by Vakarian Security Services. Furthermore, his discovery of the shadow war between Heaven and Hell following his introduction to the Archangel Azrael has created such vast levels of conflict that its liable to tear what little is left of him apart. He has attempted to keep true to vision by pledging his allegiance to Azrael in his war against the machinations of Sammael, joining several other individuals Azrael has gathered for his plans, but Shadow is one step away from listening to the internal voice that tells him to end it all with a single bullet. So far, his loyalty to his partner and his desire to see the world become a better place has kept him from jumping, but its only a matter of time before he finally breaks completely.
History:
Shadow was born fourteen years before Chorazin became cut off from the rest of the world. The firstborn child of a middle class family living in the New Jersey zones, Shadow's childhood was not one of excess, but it was comfortable, especially compared to the vast majority of the city's population. His father, a member of Vakarian Security Services, managed to keep the majority of the harshness of the world away from his family, expertly keeping the gap between home and work a mile wide. For sure, the Daviks' were a lucky family in the midst of the deepening corruption of Chorazin.
Like all good things however, this could not last forever. When Shadow was fourteen, something happened that would impact him for the rest of his life. Seemingly from out of nowhere, Chorazin was changed irreversibly. A great and fiery pit, the likes of which one could only imagine in their nightmares, erupted within the center of the city, devastating large swathes of the city's center. At the same time, a vast barrier of golden light sprang forth into existence around the city, flattening buildings on the edge of Chorazin's borders and trapping all within. Predictably, the city was filled with chaos as people tried to grasp what had just happened. Riots spread throughout the streets, and the security forces throughout the city were faced with crime on an unprecedented scale. Called out to assist his fellow officers deal with the populace, Shadow's father gathered his badge and his gear and drove into the midst of it all.
It was the last time Shadow saw his father alive.
Shadow and his mother took refuge during this time in the house of his mother's friend, who's husband was also a security officer who had responded to the riots. They watched the news on the TVs, as stories broke out on what was happening. As the days turned to weeks, and the weeks turned to months, the chaos gradually began to die down as people began to accept the truth of their situation: They were trapped, and they were not getting out. When the months turned to years, life began to gradually fall back into place, all a part of a desperate attempt at dealing with everything that had happened. Life would go on, and although some never truly accepted it, things eventually began to resemble normality.
For Shadow, however, things would never again be normal. Refusing to return to school, Shadow turned his attentions to readying himself for his goals. The appearance of the pit and the barrier and the disappearance of his father had decided for him that he would follow in his father's footsteps and become a security contractor. Chorazin, though not exactly 'safe' to begin with, had become a much more deadly place, and Shadow wanted nothing more than to ensure that his mother and his friends would not suffer the same fates as the poor souls who perished in the first few weeks of being cut off from the rest of the world.
The moment he turned eighteen, Shadow found himself in Vakarian Security's recruitment office, applying for a spot in the academy. He was accepted immediately. Vakarian Security needed more recruits more than ever, and as the son of a decorated member of the company, Shadow's place was all but guaranteed. Diving straight into the fray, Shadow found himself excelling at his classes, quickly marking himself for advancement. By the time he graduated from the academy, he had been recognized as one of his class's most promising officers, and was immediately assigned to a beat alongside a fellow recruit.
His following career with Vakarian was exceptional, and Shadow advanced through the ranks quickly. Within a few short years, he went from being a beat cop to possessing a detective's badge, and eligibility for officer school. Though some within the corporation believed his quick advancement through the ranks was only due to his father's status, those who saw Shadow's record were quickly converted. He was everything an officer of Vakarian was expected to be, and more.
Achieving his officer's bars after just under a decade of service to the company, Shadow was assigned to the special investigations division in order to pursue leads on high profile crimes. While many within the unit dedicated their time and efforts to the likes of the Tainted, a gradually expanding cult, or the Serpent's Fang band of slavers, Shadow found his attentions dragged an entirely different direction. Earlier in his service, he had been involved in several encounters with a gang by the name of the Hellions, encounters which had left lasting impressions on the man. With his new officer status, he had much more leeway in the way he did things, and this allowed him to return to the criminals which had always interested him.
Lead by a woman known only to Vakarian as Keyzer Soze, the Hellions were a tech-gang of quite some power. However, unlike the majority of the street gangs that plagued the city, the Hellions were a completely different breed of criminal. Far from doped up thugs, they were calculating and resourceful, and had so far been able to completely elude the authorities... so much so that Shadow was almost certain they were bribing somebody in high authority to keep them of their backs. The Hellions file had been left completely untouched since the previous leader had been killed in a gang fight.
And so Shadow decided that he would be the one to take care of it.
The next few years, he spent investigating the Hellions. At first, his progress was stalled by the general lack of Intel on the gang's activities and a lack of interest from the higher ups, but eventually, Shadow managed to make progress. While tailing an associate of the gang known as "Axel", he was able to come across a weapons deal that was being negotiated between the Hellions and another gang. At the head of the Hellions was a masked woman Shadow had spent his time hunting tirelessly for: Keyzer Soze.
His attempt to bring her in that day resulted in the gun deal dissolving into a complete disaster, as both gangs opened up on each other and himself. Shadow was almost able to get Soze, surprising her at gunpoint and exchanging a few words, but in his moment of triumph, Soze somehow managed to slip out of his grasp thanks to the incredibly advanced tech at her fingertips. Seeing his success fall away around him, he swore he would find her and bring her in, a sentiment that brought on little more than a mocking laugh as Soze escaped.
From that moment on, his career became a series of near misses and almost victories as he tried desperately to uphold his promise. To his great dismay, his prey seemed to find the entire situation highly amusing, taking great effort to mock and taunt Shadow through out it all. As time went on, his desire to see Soze in irons began to evolve far beyond a simple wish to see justice done, becoming more of a need to see Soze bow before him and admit defeat at the hands of the better man. Both his fellow officers and his superiors in management quickly saw where things were going, and attempted to convince him to back off before he got himself killed, but he refused. In the end, his reputation gradually began to fall away, and he was quickly labeled a lost cause, with many a fellow officer making snide remarks about his hunt for Soze being driven by desire for her rather than her capture.
For quite some time, Shadow found himself working alone. Though initially offended, Shadow gradually began to feel at home working as a solo detective, excelling at watching his own back. However, this all changed the day he found himself assigned a new partner in the form of one Amy Locke. A recent graduate from the Academy, she had passed only due to the skill set she possessed, and had become known for her absolute lack of respect for authority. When Shadow received her file, mere minutes before meeting the woman for the first time, he realized that her assignment was as much a slap to the face of him and his new partner. Assigned to Shadow's detail, she was fairly limited in her opportunities for advancement. Meanwhile, Shadow was forced to deal with a rookie who refused to listen to anything he ordered her to do unless she felt like doing it anyways.
At first, the partnership was quite rocky, Shadow becoming greatly annoyed at the antics of his partner. Over time however, he began to appreciate her abilities and came to understand just how to get her to work. Despite his seniority, he began to differ to her judgement when his own was cloudy, and a lot of her personality began to rub off on the veteran. In time, he became proud to call her his partner.
Two years ago, Shadow found himself called in to serve with the Urban Assault Recon teams, after a series of clashes with the Hell-worshiping cult of Tainted on the edges of Vakarian jurisdiction escalated beyond the norm. Despite his failing reputation, Shadow still possessed some of the highest qualifications in his division, and had served several times prior during his earlier career. With the UAR teams, he took part in the first battles against the quickly expanding Tainted cult, as Vakarian attempted to suppress their enemies. Fortunately for Shadow, his actions during this time greatly began to rebuild his reputation as an effective officer. Unfortunately for the *company*, the Tainted had become a greater threat then they had realized, having forged alliances with both the Serpent's Fang slaver ring and the Chorazin Liberation Front, and the UAR teams suffered immense casualties. As the fighting continued, officers who had little to no experience in the UAR teams were forced to under go rapid courses and thrown into the fray in order to halt the Tainted advance into Vakarian territory.
Eventually, Vakarian realized that they were incapable of containing the threat, and began to seek assistance from fellow security corporations. Monac Securities, who had also been engaged in fighting with the Tainted, quickly offered their support, as did Citadel. Shadow was excited about the news at first, as the combined force of three powerful companies such as these would be able to lessen the pressure put on his comrades. However, when he heard a fourth party was included in the Coalition, his heart sunk.
The Hellions, the gang led by his mortal foe, had offered their own considerable resources to the fight due to having also been effected by the Tainted raids. In exchange however, they were given pardons for the majority of their crimes from the three companies, and Shadow was informed that the entire case he had waiting for him had been closed by his superiors, invalidating nearly a decade of his life work.
For Shadow, such an occurrence was heartbreaking. Though he realized that the assistance of the Hellions would prove to be quite useful in the coming fight, it still meant that Soze would be allowed to walk freely, and he couldn't touch a hair on her head. Fortunately for him, the majority of his attention was focused on surviving the constant engagements with the Tainted, and so he was unable to brood to long on the problem. War first, then he could deal with his personal business, after all.
About a year into the war, following the terrorist attack on Vakarian's headquarters which wiped out half the board of directors, Shadow was plucked out of his team and brought before the Coalition leaders, alongside several other members who had gained honors during the fighting. It was explained that the three companies would begin assembling the best officers from each company, plus the Hellions, and creating special operations squads that would operate directly under the command of the Coalition's leaders in order to strike their foes where they expected them the least. Shadow, thanks to his new found reputation, found himself assigned to a squad with some of the most talented agents of the four leaders.
It was here that the greatest revelation he would ever hear was revealed to him. Garrett Hawke of Citadel Security revealed to this unit his true identity as the Archangel Azrael. Stunned at the sight of this creature of supernatural origin, Shadow listened as he explained that the war between the Coalition and the Tainted alliance was little more than a proxy war between the forces of Heaven and Hell, and that Azrael needed mortal agents in this war. Though several members of the unit refused to accept this revelation, Shadow, being a believer in God in the first place, was one of the ones who took the news without denial. Though absolutely surprised at the presence of servants of the Lord, Shadow willingly accepted a place under Azrael's command.
It wasn't long, however, before it dawned on him what Azrael's presence meant, and it began to effect him more than he thought it would. Though the idea of quite literally being a warrior of Heaven appealed to him in theory, the full brunt of the knowledge that he was tiny in comparison to what was happening behind the scenes took its toll. As operation after operation occurred, he began to despair. For if the Coalition could not destroy the Tainted with the backing of God's will, then how could he possibly stand against the forces of Hell?
