The future is now: advances in medical technology have increased the average human lifespan to upwards of 100 years with few complications; mechanical humans and robots are part of everyday life; the population in this city alone has skyrocketed over one billion. Much has changed since the old days. Morals are no longer taught. Crime rates have skyrocketed so much that to find a kind soul in this city is rare indeed. One must fight, steal, even kill to survive.
