Activity Level:Nearly daily- The Character -
Name:Mara
Order:Dominion
Loyalty: To Certain Individuals
Member Group: Demon
Appearance:
A: Angelic Pure Form:
Unlike pictured, Mara’s Pure form has some female features, but other than that the design elements remain the same. Her body is well armored while face is cloaked and out of sight, hidden in shadows. The armor itself is primarily black with silver trim across it. Aside from this the hood which hides her face is attached to a cape which moves much like her vaporous perfect form. No skin at all can be seen as even her hands have armored gauntlets covering them. Aside from this fact she also has a single pair of vulture black wings that seem to be constantly molting. Her body emits no light unlike her ‘brethren’ but in fact seems to dim light coming to it like some form of black hole. The severity of this change is dependent solely on her emotional state.
B: Angelic Perfect Form: A ghostly vaporous form that most often manifests as a fox-like being. Its eyes glow a deep red that shine (or glow, depending on who you ask) when she activates hallucinations or any form of mental attack. In this form her mouth does not appear to move when she speaks and in fact the only thing that does are the swirls of dark shadows wafting off of her apparently intangible body. This intangibility is only an illusion in itself as she as just as vulnerable here as any other Angel or Demon, but it should be enough to gain a moment’s hesitation.
C: Human Form:
Mara’s human form is that of a teenage Asian human, reflecting about just as much on her personality as her other forms. Her hair has been dyed with red streaks and she looks like just about every other school-age punk on the streets… which is how she likes it. Quiet, unnoticed… though honestly it is a rarely utilized form that she only uses as a last resort. Her feelings on humans are well documented, but it allows her to do her job with cunning efficiency.
Personality: Mara is a very childish soul. When she is in the presence of other Demons or the occasional Angel she is prone to joking around and overall trying to lighten the mood of a room. However when it comes to humanity and her job her personality darkens greatly. The way she figures it, humanity deserves everything she can dish out. They lie, cheat, steal, and pretty much break every commandment thrown at them. She simply can’t understand this compassion and unconditional love God seems so willing to give them. The forgiveness they are granted time and time again simply boggles her mind. In fact she probably has spent the least amount of her existence in her human form, finding the very idea vile.
Even now she’s functioning in undoubtedly the most sinful city on the face of Creation. If that isn’t a hint as to why she feels this way about humans, nothing is.
Though in the end she is nothing but a highly intelligent child. The moment that something positive happens she is probably one of the most joyful beings in creation, breaking out in smiles and giggles. In contrast to the norm for her, it’s the little miracles that make or break a day. Without them, her existence would probably be nothing more than a void of pain and darkness.
A world without color.

History:Mara was created at the same time as Adam and Eve, as a way for punishing mankind for their inevitable fall from grace. Her function was a simple one, to gently push sinning humans via mental negative reinforcement back to the light. However as the years progressed, Mara grew to enjoy her work more and more, beginning to push people into insanity. Her actions began to lack any form of empathy, as could only be expected for one in her position. She never saw happiness or joy with her job. Her job was to twist moments of peace into those of unrest, and allow human’s ‘free-will’ to do the rest. As a result she ended up falling, turning her back on God when ordered to tone down her abilities.
Lighten up? On Mankind? They deserve everything she can throw at them. They are blind pathetic animals blundering through their short lives and destroying everything in their paths. Their fears guide their every movement and the only reason why there is any faith in the world is due to their fear of this being the only life they have. That when they die they simply stop existing. Mara fails to see what about humans is so intriguing, with her job forcing her to see the dark side constantly. In fact her fall was one of the initial triggers for the dark ages, spreading fear and disorder throughout much of Europe. Only when God started taking a more direct hand, the creation of her younger sister Aeode, did humanity start to claw its way out once more.
Only to fall again in the present. She had nearly burst when she heard that humanity had incurred God’s wrath once more. After all, it would mean that she had been right all this time and no amount of punishment would keep them in line but then her older brother Lucifer spoke up with a deal. Honestly the only reason she’s allied with him is the simple fact that he lets her have her way, so long as she does the occasional favor for him. This she couldn’t help but disagree on, but hey, she’d keep her tongue in check for now. Still, the deal was one to which God agreed.
And one Mara laments constantly. After all, she’s gone from having run of a planet to one city. Honestly she’s rather easily bored here as there aren’t enough people during the day to consume her time leaving the Demon of Nightmares rather empty.
What’s a girl to do, caged up with the precise thing she despises?

As time passed within the city, Mara became more and more disenchanted with tormenting the masses. What was the point of her being here anyway? To sow the seeds of destruction, insanity, and chaos? They hardly needed her meddling for that. This City was on the downward slide as is. Still, somehow, Hell was losing the Arrangement. The longer this went on for the more unhinged Sammael became. Mara didn't see the signs. She should have. In all of her time trying to stick it to the stuck up Archdemon, she should have seen when enough was enough.
Still, she didn't stop when she bound the terrorist Nihlus's soul to his bones, preventing other angelic beings from doing him direct harm. There were a couple key parts to this deal. She was still capable of harming him, and when Nihlus dies his soul will be eternally bound to his bones as will his consciousness. The Demon of Nightmares took particular delight in that detail as she had not informed him.
He'd find out soon enough.
She was also too busy trying to build up her younger sibling, Aeode. Through their conflicts Mara could see that Aeode was fading. The blonde Angel was not the shining muse she once was.
At this rate the Angel of Dreams would end up dead, if not at Mara's hand then at another Demon's. This sent Mara into a panic. Aeode was the only distraction that the Demon had from Hell anymore. Without her, she would spiral out of control and bring back the dark ages. The only reason why she hadn't been destroyed the first time, even she had to admit, was due to Aeode's creation. God saw fit to keep the little demon around.
If Aeode dies and she were to slip.... something worse than death would be in store for her.
So when Azrael approached her with a Deal, the little Demon listened. She didn't fully consider the consequences of it though. He offered her a way out. She could continue these fights with Aeode, continue her torment of the masses to an extent for two conditions. She had to give Azrael any information she could get her hands on about Sammael's operation, and spend some time as a human. Mara had countered.... but not to escape the required time as a human. Not at all. She made the Archangel of Death swear to end her if Aeode ever dies, so as to prevent her from going completely Dark Ages. It took some convincing, but eventually he agreed.
Mara grew to regret this arrangement as time went on.
Sammael discovered her little deception when search for God's Book of many secrets. Apparently the Archdemon had released a campaign of misinformation to suss out the mole in his operation. Mara had fallen for it. She should have known better than to turn up when he summoned her, or even try to run when she saw Sammael, Bezaliel, and Nihlus together for this meeting. Her tormentor, her friend, and her dirty little secret.
Sammael lost his temper at the mere sight of her, launching himself at her. She hated how easily he overpowered her, how helpless she was with his hand crushing her Pure form's throat as her wings beat uselessly. She should have known this was how it was going to end, by the hand of one of her Siblings. But once again, she was wrong. Sammael had an incomplete copy of the book he had been searching for and with it he bound her to her Perfect form. A series of straps secured themselves about her body and burned with various runes, preventing her from using her abilities without permission. She spent over a year in this form, being nothing more than an attack dog for Sammael. She lost exact track to be honest. There's only so long you can spend being treated as a beast before the mind adjusts. The days blurred together, a mass of humiliation and submission that she could not escape from...
Until Azrael killed her handler in an attempt to end the Demon of Nightmares. Not that long ago she had begged him to stop her if she ever got out of control. Sammael was close to fully breaking her, and it had to be stopped. Taking the lesser demon by surprise had been a cake walk for him. Mara however, proved a tad faster than he had expected, barely dodging his initial blow. Black fire from his blade scorched her fur and burned into her bindings. She leaped away as the black fire raced along the straps on her body, creating more smoke about her than normal. She backed into the shadows like a feral beast, as the bindings burned and fell away from her body. Soon even the runes dimmed and all that was left was Azrael and Mara staring each other down. Her ethereal growl echoed about them before she turned and disappeared from view deep into the shadows. To his credit, he tried to pursue her as the fox leaped from shadow to shadow like a dolphin in the ocean... but it wasn't long before he lost her in the massive city that is Chorazin.
And now? The only thing on her mind is to feed.
