Name: Jasten
Age: Twenty
CBox Name: Jasten
RP Experience: Ten Years
Activity Level: Always
Name: - Azrael, Archangel of Death, Garrett Hawke - Human Alias
Order: Archangel
Loyalty: Heaven, Citadel Security
Member Group: Angel
Appearance:
Angelic Pure Form:
In his pure form, Azrael appears as the embodiment of Death as a mystery. Beneath his hood, his face is pitch black and completely featureless. The rest of his body is completely covered in clothing of the blackest cloth. In several places across his body, white runes of the language of Heaven, proclaiming his loyalty to Heaven and his purpose. In stark contrast to the dark attire, Azrael possesses a pair of giant, white feathered wings. At a sheath at his side, he keeps an incredibly plain sword seemingly forged of iron, with on the pommel. At will, he can ignite the blade, covering it with a sheath of black celestial fire. A gilded scroll case rests on a belt at his hip, alongside a quill and bottle of ink. This scroll case contains Azrael's most recent entries into his list of the deceased.
Angelic Perfect Form:
In his perfect form, Azrael appears as the embodiment of Death as a dying human's final challenge. He is clad in a suit ornate banded mail, covered with symbols of death such as skulls. Elements of his pure form shine through here, such as his hood and robes that he wears under his armor. Azrael's body in this form is completely covered aside from his head, a bare skull with eye sockets that faintly glow red. His wings in this form are far from the snow white wings of his pure form, instead being tattered and a dirty, brownish color. His sword and scroll make appearances in this form as well. His sword in this form is an extremely ornate two handed broadsword, forged from some of the highest quality material in Heaven. His scroll is on his belt again in a case. This case is even more ornate than the one in his pure form, and slightly larger in size.
Human Form:In his human form, Azrael appears as an adult male in his late twenties, early thirties. Standing at six feet three, he is a decently tall man who looks over most normal humans. His hair is a medium shade of brown, leaning towards the darker end of the spectrum. Azrael keeps his facial hair down to a light stubble usually, though occasionally he'll let it grow out in this form as it strikes him to do so. His eyes are a dark brown, almost the exact same color as his hair. Much like his counterpart Sammael, Azrael highly favors nice suits for attire in this form, usually in black and grey. As fitting his human form's position as the CEO of Citadel Security, he wears a ludicrously expensive watch with the company logo on its face.

+ People Watching
+ Loyalty
- Betrayal

Strengths and Weaknesses:
+ Unrivaled Experience - Azrael is literally the oldest being in creation next to God, created to write down births of the first beings and the deaths of the last. As a result, he has been around the block several billion times, and has picked up a thing or a million along the way. He possesses more practical experience dealing with Humankind than almost any of his comrades, having spent time with them in both life and death since the creation of Adam. This gives him incredible insight in way things work when revolving around humans, something he has put towards winning the Arrangement in his Father's name.
+ Combat Knowledge - When your business is death, one tends to excel at dealing it. Though his primary function is gathering the souls of the deceased and writing down the births and deaths of important men, Azrael is expected to lead his fellow angels on the field of battle like the rest of the Archangels. He is one of the Host's premier experts in Heavenly Warfare, standing behind only the likes of Michael in Heaven and Lucifer in Hell. This tactical knowledge, coupled with his skill with his fiery blade, are two of the primary reasons he was selected above all others to serve as God's representative in Chorazin during the Arrangement.
+ Encyclopedic Knowledge of Man - Azrael is often given weird looks from his comrades due to his obsession with staying up to date with Mankind's knowledge, but it is certainly a strength in the city. He is capable of reciting lines from classic literature, the strengths and weaknesses of Man's finest artists, and, sadly enough, popular culture icons. This is, under most circumstances, absolutely worthless information, and other angels say so. However, it proves invaluable when blending with and relating to Humanity.
- Judgemental - Azrael has a set of very specific and incredibly old set of beliefs about those who he labels as the enemy, and has a hard time accepting changes in these 'truths'. When a Demon, for instance, attempts to repent for their crimes, he is incredibly doubtful of their sincerity, regardless of how truly regretful they are. Though he loves even his brothers who fell, he considers their fall a personal slight against him and his father, and struggles to forgive them. This presents an interesting dilemma for Azrael, as he believes in redemption, but hesitates to carry it out himself.
- Overprotective - Azrael's family means more to him than anything else except his Father himself. As a result, he often finds it difficult to command his subordinates to carry out tasks when the risk of death or serious injury is great, even if success is all but guaranteed in the process. His coddling has led to several members of the Host to resent his unwillingness to place those he subconsciously considers too weak on missions of importance, as they often believe he does it out of spite. This also has the unintended side effect of causing a circle, as he declines tasks for his angels due to a lack of experience, experience they never were able to receive because he declined.
Personality:
At least a paragraph consisting of 5-6 sentences. This will usually transfer from one form to another, but some transformations can and will change the personality. Describe any differences from form to form if applicable.
History:
When God made the first of the angels, there was one created before all others. The first being to be created, whether mortal or not, was the great archangel, Azrael. The first to be created, God
made him to be the last to die. From his creation, Azrael was to be Heaven's primary angel of death, and to record the births and deaths of all of God's Creations, from the lowliest bacteria to the highest of angels.
God placed Azrael in charge of the sheparding of Earth's creatures' souls to heaven, which Azrael enjoyed to the fullest. As Earth was to be the center piece of Creation, the work he did there was perhaps the most important he could imagine. This fact was a cause of slight jealousy amongst the later angels of death, who felt partially cheated at being used elsewhere. Azrael remainded ignorant of their animosity, however.
When Lucifer Morningstar began to spread his doubt amongst the angels, Azrael was amongst the first to be approached by his brother. By this time, Azrael was a subject of distrust amongst the other angels, and so Lucifer thought turning Azrael would be easy. Azrael continually denied Lucifer's requests with a laugh, always thinking it was simply a phase, and nothing serious. When the rebellion started, Azrael was surprised.
Though he sided with the forces of God, he was untrusted among his brothers, as he was sometimes seen as just as evil and dark as the Fallen. As white was the color of purity, and Azrael refused to be seen in it, it was only natural that even the likes of Michael and Gabriel were not trusting of the archangel. Azrael fought bravely during the rebellion, once crossing blades with Lucifer himself, before being forced to retreat. However, the biggest battle he fought was fought against his former comrade and brother, the archangel Sammael.
The feeling of betrayal that Azrael felt when he fought against his brother was extreme. For ages after the war, he continued in his work, though the feeling of contentment he once had was gone. Eventually, Azrael felt the need to do something even greater than safeguarding the souls of the pure.... saving the souls of the tainted. Azrael regained the trust of his brothers by sneaking into the depths of Hell itself, to steal the souls of the mortals Lucifer claimed.
When the city of Chorazin became the subject of a deal between God and Lucifer, Azrael was pulled from his work to attend the meeting between the two. It was at this meeting that Azrael became stuck in the deal, and forced to represent God. While at first it angered him, Azrael accepted his position with relish when he found out who he would be placed against: His brother, Sammael.
Since then, Azrael has been stuck in the city, attempting to figure out a loophole to end the agreement well before it was supposed to end. He wishes to return to his mission of rescuing the souls of the damned from their fates. Meanwhile, however, he will try to save the souls of the tainted within the city. While he does this to please God, Azrael has his own motivation... to hinder Sammael and make his life, for lack of a better term, a living hell.
Roleplay Example:
Though it took a bit, Azrael eventually began to see the wheels turning in Jessica's head, as she grasped what he had just said. He smiled at the questioning tone in her voice as she repeated his statement on Death being hard to kill. Well, it seemed as if he had successfully managed to confuse the woman with his words. It wasn't much of a surprise, really, considering that he had just informed her that he was the very personification of Death. Usually when somebody said something that absurd, you could write that person off as being either a liar or insane. Azrael, however, had several things that were backing him up. His name and the fact Jessica had just viewed him in the form most resembling what mortals associated with Death.
His smile turned into a rather amused expression on her next words, however. The way she said 'Sure, you're Azrael the Archangel of Death' practically screamed that she did not believe for one second that what was happening was real. A fair enough decision, he believed, especially in the condition the woman was. With alcohol flowing through her body, she could reasonably assume she had just hallucinated what had just happened to her. Fortunately for her, she hadn't hallucinated anything... which would no doubt be of little relief to the woman when she realized what that meant.
At the very least, she could say she wasn't losing her mind. 'Course, in a city like this, that was still a possibility.
But all things in due time! If Jessica was indeed convinced that Azrael's whole flying Grim Reaper thing had simply been a hallucination, then that would mean she would have shot an innocent man (or at least as innocent as anyone else in this town). Such a realization would be something that most people who didn't have murder on their minds would not appreciate in the least. So Azrael, ever a charitable soul, made the split second decision to attempt to convince Jessica that she was completely imagining his presence there. In his mind, that would at least make the fact that she just shot somebody in the chest a little bit less alarming. Mental issues were something you could fix. Gunning down someone, not so much.
"Well now, you're awfully accepting compared to many of the other people who I visit. Usually, their responses aren't very pretty. Why, I once had a man I came for once attempt to assault me with my own scythe. Truly a pathetic attempt." He smiled, as if reflecting on the past event with happiness. In reality, he had never, ever had such a situation occur. Sure, they had tried to assault him, but never had they gone for his scythe. Even the dead knew that such a thing was suicide, it would seem. "I'm also quite surprised to hear you use my full title. Most people never call me an archangel. Not even the Church calls me that. Can you believe that? The very religion who's God I serve, and they don't even recognize my existence. Its good to know there's a few people out there who know who I am." He let out a small laugh here, before continuing.
"As for thanking the Angel of Luck, there is no need. I'll pass on your regards myself. I'm sure he'll be quite delighted to hear that there are those who still appreciate his services these days. So many people cursing their ill-fortune, and blaming luck for it all... he just doesn't get the recognition for what he does anymore." Of course, in reality Shansmaer was also absolutely responsible for people having shitty luck as well. He was, after all, the Angel of just luck, not good or bad. But this worked better for his purposes.
"As for me being here to collect your soul, you've no need to worry. I'm not. Rather, I'm here because you want me to be here, whether you know that or not. After all, I wouldn't be inside your head if you didn't want me there, would I?" Here, he glanced down at himself, as if looking himself over for something. "Though I have to say, I'm quite surprised this is what you decided to imagine Death as. Most people would expect someone a little more, I don't know, old. Or dead. Not a handsome gentleman like myself. Of course, I suppose its to be expected, after all. You just left a bar where you were drinking with a man that bears my name, and looks the same. Of course your mind would make that connection." He looked back up, a smile still on his face.
"I'm not complaining, mind you. As long as I exist in your head, I'd like to exist as someone who isn't disturbing to look upon."
